Zentangle Diva’s Challenge #198 – Keep it Simple

by Suzanne Fluhr on December 15, 2014 · 22 comments

The Diva’s challenge this week is to “Keep it Simple”. Hmm. This is easier said than done for a recovering type A lawyer. I made an executive decision that for me, keeping it simple meant doing a monotangle for which I chose “phicops” — one of my current tangle favorites. But then, I couldn’t resist adding a modified version of Diva’s Dance which made my tile for this week’s challenge look suspiciously like my response to challenge #185. So, now I have a new reason for why my challenge response this week is “simple” — it’s a bit of a retread. It turns out that I’ve kind of “been there, done that”.

Zentangle Diva's Challenge #198

I might have reinvented the wheel here.

Patchwork Quilt a the Hawaii Quilt Guild Show

Patchwork quilt constructed of pieced squares.

Speaking of reinvention, before I declared myself became a tangler, I was a quilter wannabe. The two forms of self-expression actually have more than a few things in common. They are both creative outlets that make use repetitive patterns. This probably explains my affinity for quilt shows. I enjoy admiring the work of quilters. If you are in the mood for some quilt eye candy, check out my blog post about our visit to the Hawaii Quilt Guild show earlier this year which came along just in time to lift my spirits after a difficult week. (Yep. There are difficult weeks — even in Paradise).

The Diva won’t be posting any new challenges until after the New Year, so to all my Zentangle community friends, I wish you a happy and peaceful holiday season.

Well, it sounds to me like you need to get a few of those books where Zentangle and quilting have become pals. Once you do that and get your CZT (congrats), you can teach at quilting shops! Love your “not so simple” tile 🙂

Jean, I’m much better at looking at quilts than making them. 😉

Lovely Phicops..es? (Plural of Phicops?) Simple elegance. The tangled quilting has always had my jaw dropping – amazing possibilities if you’re a quilter…which, sadly, I’m not and never will be. Phobic about sewing machines….Axxx

What a lovely tile! It’s sort of like a Hawaiian quilt with the echoing pattern on the edges.
Having spent 30 years in Hawaii, I have a special place in my heart for those simle quilts and they’re very appropriate for the K.I.S.S. theme.

I like this round outline with the nice pattern in it, well done.

Thank you for your comment on my blog. Can you try if the translation tool works? That would be very nice.

Happy Holidays to you

I know what you mean about retread…hahaha! And I too have some quilt pieces tucked away in a special box and place (thanks for the reminder 🙂 I also have been to the May quilt show in Hawaii and this Fall Wayne and I had a booth at a Women’s show at the Neal Blaisdell Ctr. in downtown Honolulu they featured a wonderful quilt display. I have always been attracted to the patterns of quilts too, but never really gone forward…must revisit that box. I think my spatial aptitude works better in areas less than 4-6 inches, but that quilt may get done yet. I visited your page regarding your HI trip, wonderful memories! Thanks for your insights on “simple” (Wayne and I have been discussing simple all morning) love reading your blog! Sorry I got so wordy!

Lovely tile. I tried quilting eons ago and made 1 quilt, the finished squares were 1 inch. Have a blessed and delightful holiday,

One inch squares? That’s ambitious!

Nice Zendala. Do not remember that other post. Think that sometimes there are some repeats as people use similar tangles or themes. Nice job on the Phicops.

Excellent composition, and beautiful flow. It has a “classic” feel to it. Love it
