Zentangle Diva Challenge #254 – Love is All You Need Edition

Not feeling limited to shades of red, I like the way this background done with water color pencils turned out.

[If you need an introduction to Zentangle®, start here.}

In anticipation of upcoming Valentine’s Day, the Zentangle Diva’s challenge this week is to produce a tangled Valentine’s inspired tile. I have this perhaps sappy belief that we should celebrate Valentine’s Day everyday — that if we have been fortunate enough to have found a true love, we can bask in its glow every day—while we go to work, do the laundry, go to the supermarket, walk the dog, cook dinner, watch a sunset and otherwise exist. Many of us long married old codgers have retained more passion than others might suspect, and the years together have also inexorably intertwined our shared life histories. As a Swedish proverb maintains, “Shared joy is twice the joy. Shared sorrow is half the sorrow.”

The tangle Mooka has always reminded me of a heart, so that is where I turned for my Valentine’s Day inspired tile.

I used a Mooka heart as a string on paper prepared with water color pencils.

First I prepared the paper with some newly acquired water color pencils. I like the marbled effect I can achieve, but I didn’t purchase a robust enough set of pencils to provide the range of reds I needed for this challenge, so I’m afraid my Mooka heart ended up on an orange feeling background. Now I know what to request as a Valentine Day’s present. Hold the flowers or chocolate. How about a gift certificate to Blick’s Art Supply store? 😉

Actually, our reciprocal Valentine’s gifts to each other this year is a trip to Hawaii where we are scheduled to arrive on February 15th. A few years ago during a prior trip to the 50th state, my usually fairly unromantic Mr. Excitement, arranged lava stones to make a heart for me, being inspired by the heart shaped white stone in the middle.

If I don’t already have you reaching for some insulin, you can read this Boomeresque post I wrote about mature love and a trip down Memory Lane.

How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Count us among the old codgers who live and find joy in daily life. There is a lot to be said for growing up, older and wiser together, isn’t there?

As we look toward a snowfall this week, Hawaii is sounding pretty good. Abi and I were married in Honolulu. Sounds more romantic than it actually was, but 39 years later we still not only love each other, we like each other.

Okay, get the insulin.

Aloha!

Your tangled heart is a very biological shaped heart. I have seen one or two shaped thus so far.

We are old codgers too and this evening we are just back from eating out with friends, still surreptitiously holding hands underneath the table 😀 I am afraid we have got rather like Father Grumpy Christmas about Valentines Day now and go about grumbling about the cost of roses nowaday and refusing to eat out on the day because the prices are sky high not like in the old days. I still have some valentines messages and a valentines poem written to me on the back of a chocolate bar wrapper though.

Okay, the tangles are great, but the heart your husband made for you was the most beautiful thing I have seen today! You certainly have a keeper!

Great tile! I love the marbled effect. But mostly I loved the Swedish proverb “Shared joy is twice the joy. Shared sorrow is half the sorrow.” I have always said the down side of being alone, is not being able to share the happiest moments with someone:) Have a fabulous trip to Hawaii!

Loved that paragraph about the joys of being long-married old codgers. And that terrific heart in the sand. Happy Valentines Day!

Good for you for having negotiated life and still in love after all these years! I like your Mooka, a tangle that confounds me; I like that you filled it in with all sorts of goodies. And your idea of lovely art goodies is a perfect gift. Which watercolor crayons are you using? The mottled effect is charming.
To answer the question, for us, too, every day is a celebration of love and joy, but we celebrated V-day a little early with a Jesse Cook concert.
Have a brilliant day! Cheryl

Who you callin’ old codgers, chickie?? I’m older than you! Although I will agree that those of us with true love have retained more passion than others might suspect!! We are so blessed in that – the more you know someone the better you biblically know them, ya know? (Smile) I really like this post and your pinky orangy peachy heart!!

The marbled background is lovely (and so much fun to create, don’t you think?) and the heart is beautiful too. But not as fantastic as the heart in the sand, made for you! Some years ago Kees came back from UK and brought me a stone in a heart shape and still every time a look at it, I’m touched by his gesture.

I love your Mooka. This is a tangle that I admire but rarely use myself but it is lovely on the soft background.

And yes, we have been fortunate enough to grow together and still love and respect each other every day.

These are so nice. I love the stone valentine on the beach, and the saying… Joy shared is twice the joy; sorrow shared is half the sorrow.” So incredibly sweet and touching. I think my favorite of your tiles are the two flux/opus with the watercolor pencil background. I love the flow…very pretty.

Wonderful post! Lovely Mooka heart! But the heart of lava stones on the beach is absolutely beautiful and unique!

Interesting effect with the water color pencils. I’ll need to experiment with that some time. I think all of your tiles are lovely but my favorite is the love note from your husband 🙂 Have a great time in Hawaii!
