“Shorely”

(For anyone visiting this post from Zentangle DivaLandistan where I am guest Diva this week, scroll down to see Aloha used with 2 versions of Shorely.)

My blog is named “Boomeresque” because I am of a certain age. It’s an age when recalling the names of tangles to use with the Zentangle® method becomes a somewhat difficult exercise.

The Mother Ship instructs that the names of tangles should not be representational. Hence, for example, my tangle, Aloha, is named after something I saw in Hawaii. Probably no other tanglers saw what I saw, so for the rest of the world, Aloha doesn’t help them remember that tangle which actually looks like leaves.

Hence, when it came to naming my latest tangle deconstruction, I once again resorted to geography to try to give myself a hint that might bring forth the name from my brain which is apparently overfull of important information. I have named it Shorely—because although I started using it in Philadelphia (and therefore could have named it Liberty, Brotherly Love, Rocky or Eagles), I finally did the step outs in the coastal town of Brigantine, New Jersey. Philadelphians don’t go to the beach. We go “down the shore”. Thus, this tangle which should be named “Floral” to make it easy to remember, is named Shorely.

Here are the step outs:

Shorely can be “tangleationized” into all sorts of looks and combines nicely with other tangles, IMHO.

Disclaimer: Before publishing Shorely, I posted it in a CZT group to see if anyone recognized it. There are other floral patterns, but I think this is unique enough to be its own tangle. If you have seen it elsewhere, please let me know in a comment.

Copyright: Anyone is free to use this in their own work or classes, but not to sell it for commercial purposes without my permission.

Other published Boomeresque tangles: Phirst, Segundo, Tercero, Aurabead, Aloha

Give Shorely a try and let me know if it “speaks” to you.

Pretty. I may not tangle but I know pretty when I see it (smile)!!! Some of these would make cool back splash tile in a black and white kitchen!!

I’m still waiting for a Zentangle to speak to me. But I enjoyed the photo of the flower!

I appreciate your loyalty (not in the Trumpian sense of the word) given that you’re not particularly interested in reading about either of my main blog themes: travel and Zentangle. 😉

I find that a puzzling and … perhaps unnecessary comment! ????

The flower is Cleome and I have zillions in my gardens!

Oh, me love this very much. And I AM a tangler. Well done, Suzanne. I also love the leaves you drew in the last 2 drawings. But maybe they are already tangles? Appreciate you’re sharing.

I shared it on the CZT Tangle Discovery FB page and no one had seen it before. I’m sure there are similar tangles. There are probably over a thousand that have been deconstructed at this point.

Well, after I wrote my comment, I went over to check on DIVA and there it was!!!! The leaf I just commented on here = Aloha. I love it, Suzanne, but I know you already know that it is a fantastic tangle and like a parrot I am echoing what others already said. Duh me! Anyway, I will contribute to your DIVA guest challenge and I will do so excitedly and with renewed happy energy. Thank you so much Suzanne.

Ahh. I thought you were referring to Shorely. Yes, Aloha was published some time ago on TanglePatterns.com. I mentioned that in my Diva post.

ooooh! I love “Shorely” and I love that colorful combo with “Aloha”! Thanks again for a challenge that was hardly a challenge for me. It was more like a delightful gift, especially after the one day delay…I couldn’t wait to get started;-)

That is such a lovely thing to say, Michele. I shall bring it out of my memory when I am discouraged about Zentangle or my writing. 🙂

Your Shorely is a perfect companion tangle to the Aloha tangle. Great tangles, Suzanne!

Nice tiles. I really like the one that combines Shorely with Crescent Moon and Aloha. Would be interesting in color.

Wow– your work is beautiful. I think I told you over on insta w took a class an really liked it. We actually tangled for about a month, but as is my usual m.o. I lost interest. I have a short attention span. But it’s definitely on my list to revisit someday!!!

I’m a bit late this week – been visiting old friends. Actually, we’ve been in your old stamping ground – near Devizes, Derry Hill, to be exact and very nice it was too. I like this pattern and I used Henna Drum with it, rather as you have used Shorely here. Great minds… I like the combination and will use it again, I suspect.

Your Aloha is wonderful and I had so much pleasure with the challenge this week! Your Shorely looks so pretty. I´ll try it soon! Thanks for sharing!

I love this tangle! I did it “right” the very first time, it not being something that took me three or four tries to get right. I’ve been tangling for five years+, but there are so many tangles that end up being something entirely different from the original, I pretty much end up with my own design (my fingers just don’t seem to interpret correctly what my brain and eyes see, I guess). This is so pretty, and so easy, it’s going to be used a lot in many variations.

Thank you!

Also, your blog name is perfect, and I “get it,” being one who was born in 1953. I agree with the “yada-yada-yada,” too; hush up, Millennials, your time is coming, and you’ll soon be “that” generation!

Thanks for the nice pattern. I can’t wait to try it. Where are you in PA? I’m outside of King of Prussia.

I don’t seem to find time to tangle as much as I’d like, but this one is especially pretty! Maybe seeing the flower that inspired it—
Thank you-
