Zentangle Diva Challenge #263 – All the World’s a Globe Edition

by Suzanne Fluhr on April 12, 2016 · 21 comments

[If Zentangle® is a new concept for you, start here.]

I’ll make this short and sweet this week. Our challenge from the Zentangle Diva, Laura Harms, CZT, was to produce a grid on a zendala shape. I admit to “messing up” a zendala tile and then just tracing it so I wouldn’t mess up any more expensive tiles.

Despite my usually very critical eye for my own work, I kind of like this one—possibly because I finished it at 3:00 a.m. when my judgment had given up and gone to bed without me and possibly because it reminds me of a globe and travel is one of my other passions.

This month marks the anniversary of my first year as a CZT. With Mr. Excitement safely at work, I took over the dining room table and taught an introduction to Zentangle class yesterday at our apartment to just two students. (Mom, they were not random people. I knew they were not ax murderers.) I (and I hope they) enjoyed it. Now that I’ve taught several classes (with up to 12 students) and received positive feedback, I feel confident I can clearly convey Zentangle techniques. One of my goals for this year, is to become better at “marketing”. It would be nice to cover my blogging and zentangle costs.

So, what do you think? I handle constructive criticism very well, so opine freely.

I like the combination of the colourful little grids and the black/white tangles you have made on your globe. Really nice.
About the Zentangleseminar: indeed it was a wonderful experience that I will never forgot, I am so happy that I did it and that I am now also a CZT. I have written a bit on my latest blogpost.
My flight was from Amsterdam to Philadelphia and then a transfer to Boston.
In Philadelphia I could see these nice blossoms you showed us in an earlier blogpost.
Congratulations for being 1 year a CZT!!! I wish you lots of Zentanglepleasure

Lovely, very original. I can’t quite put my finger on it but it reminds me of something, something like the testcard on the TV and yet not that. I’ll come back if I think of it.

I am glad you are getting more confident in teaching Zentangle classes. It must be wonderful to be a CZT and inspire others.

This is really cute! A lot of work and a great effect. Glad you’re enjoying the classes. I’m not a CZT because I simply can’t afford to travel to the States to do the course, despite wanting to very much, but in a couple of weeks, I’m running a workshop here in my adopted Andalucian hometown on the basics of Zentangle. And I’ll be doing it in Spanish!! I do hope I manage to convey SOMETHING about the art and process but I’m pretty sure it won’t be the clearest of deliveries! Axxx

One of my favorite things about zentangle = the same set of parameters results in such unique and individual end products. This is really lovely, love the pops of colors.

Hi Rebecca- I couldn’t leave you a comment on your Flickr site, but I went there and saw your globe post. I agree that it’s fun to see what everyone produces with the same instructions. I liked yours. You used some of my favorite tangles. PS: We’re both recovering lawyers. I think there are quite a lot of us around.

So many tiny cells to fill and beautifully done too! I like the play of the colors with the very graphic black and white cells.

How long did all that colour and detail take? I love it, though i suspect it’s because it reminds me of the pop art of my mis-spent youth. Thanks for the reminder that I was once young, have been feeling my age for the last couple of days – hoping the sunshine will brighten me up a bit.

We’ve been monitoring the weather for your part of the world. We have brilliant spring sunshine here today. It looks like we need to bring our winter coats and wet weather gear to Scotland and the Midlands.

I love this! It reminds me of a quilt, or maybe a lovely bead. Bottom line, it makes me feel happy.

Love all the patterns and the colorful grid. Reminds me of a fisheye aerial photograph of a city, such as # 397207266 on shutterstock. Just saying. Have a brilliant day! Cheryl

I love how you filled this with so many colors and shapes. Happy and fun tile!

Suzanne, I just love this! The colored squares evoke international flags and travel stickers on antique suitcase, racks of postcards, and all manner of touristy imagery! You, as the consummate world traveler here in Zentangle-land, have extracted and reduced all the impressions into one small round work of art! Beautiful!
