Hump Day Zentangle Challenge #12

This is my last Hump Day Zentangle post from our summer abode “down the shore” in Brigantine, New Jersey. (Note to Miscreants: Other people will be here so don’t get any ideas!) Dino and I have lived down here since Memorial Day weekend, while Mr. Excitement commutes for long weekends because someone in the family has to have a real job, and he hasn’t cured lung cancer — yet. One thing I’ll miss is the sunsets:

Brigantine, New Jersey Sunset

The sunsets from our house in Brigantine, New Jersey are riveting. Actually, the “after the sunsets” are even better.

I also enjoy other people’s gardens in Brigantine. I have the opposite of a green thumb, whatever that is. Inside and outside our house, it’s strictly Darwinian. Any life form that can exist with the amount of care we are willing to provide can stay. This seems to work well for mammals. Our sons survived, some would even say “thrived”, and the dog is 14 and a half, a goodly amount of years for a dog. While walking said dog, we have plenty of opportunities to admire our neighbors’ flora, like this:

Brigantine is also home to some quirky lawn ornaments, like this:

Taking the concept of a pink flamingo lawn ornament to an entirely new level in Brigantine, NJ.

As you may have noticed, I’ve changed the name of this first Wednesday of the month post from “Tangle Choice Day” to “Whatever Wednesday” because 1) I like alliteration and 2) I don’t want to be too doctrinaire. So, on the first Wednesday of the month, I’ll let you know what I have picked as my challenge. You are free to use the same challenge for yourselves or to pick your own tangle(s) to feature.

Hump Day Zentangle® Challenge #12: Whatever Wednesday

If you’re new to the Zentangle Method start with this: What is Zentangle and Is It Habit Forming

I’ve unimaginatively decided that since the Whatever Wednesday challenges take place on the first Wednesday of each month, I’ll do a traditional Zentangle method tile choosing tangles that start with the first letter of the name of each month. So, for September, I chose 3 tangles starting with the letter “S”.

My plan was to use tangles that are new to me, but I ended up only using one tangle I haven’t used before, Spike. Spike turned out to be trickier than I thought it would be. The version of it I chose demands some focus. Despite my best effort to concentrate, if you look closely, you’ll see that I had to embrace the concept of there not being any mistakes with the Zentangle method.

I also decided to incorporate the letter “S” into my string. So, I started out with this:

Then I decided it needed an aura and the spaces needed to be divided:

Then, I started looking at “S” tangles. If you want to look at all the official Zentangle Mother Ship tangles, plus others, even some by moi, use tanglepatterns.com . If you subscribe to tanglepatterns.com (free), it’s curator, Linda Farmer, will send you new tangles she has added to the site every week. The other comprehensive place to look for tangles is Ina Sonnemoser’s Pattern-Collections.com. There has been some friction between Ina and the Zentangle® Mother Ship.  I don’t find it necessary to pick sides. Both these sites are a treasure trove of tangles indexed in several different ways to help you find what you’re looking for.

Here’s my “S” Whatever Wednesday tile. I’m underawed by it, but not enough to start over. Hopefully, some of you will produce more inspiring responses to this week’s Hump Day Challenge.

Hump Day Zentangle Challenge #12

I used a tangleation of Ina Sonnenmoser’s Spike, Sand Swirl by Karry Huen, and Shattuck, a Zentangle original tangle.

If I were doing this again, I think I’d try not to have Shattuck and Sand Swirl adjacent to one another as they are too similar.

I like what happened to that S – I like it!

Feed your pup a tea-to-tablespoon organic virgin coconut oil – good for joints, coats and health! They even feed it to older horses! Son’s faux Schnauzer (don’t recall what mix it was) was over 17 years when she moved to heaven. I think she only passed because of the divorce and her missing son when ex- took custody and she went into depression (dog not ex-, smile).

That dog’s got to enjoy the walks in those gardens so much, I love the way you write, I even feel poetic.
