Zentangle Diva Tangles 269-70: Procrastination Edition ⏳

Zentangle Diva Challenge using Mezzanine

I’m supposed to be writing a blog post about our trip to the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador. It was one of our best trips, but I’m having a severe case of procrastination, a/k/a writer’s block. Seriously, we were there in February. It’s now October. The hour glass in the title of this post is obviously insufficient. I need a month glass.

Galapagos Blue footed booby

About half the world’s population of blue footed boobies live in the Galapagos Islands off mainland Ecuador. Their feet really are blue to help them attract mates.

I think I’ll go with “writer’s block”. “Procrastination” sounds so judgmental. Even Ernest Hemingway had writer’s block when he wasn’t winning the Nobel Prize for literature. Of course, Hemingway also drank too much, womanized, ran off to fight in other people’s wars, and ultimately committed suicide. All I’ve done is take the dog to the groomers, eat two lunches, take the dog for a walk, watch cable news, write postcards to voters, worry about my 93 year old mother, ask the sleeping dog if he wants to go for another walk (no answer), catch up with my Facebook friends, and do the Zentangle Diva’s “Use My Tangle” challenge.

The damage to my self esteem caused by procrastination is amplified because I live with Mr. Excitement who can focus like a laser beam, and as far as I can tell, never ever procrastinates.

So now I’m writing a blog post for the challenge I procrastinated about last week and for this week’s challenge, instead of writing about the blue footed boobies of the Galapagos which I must get to because they really are very cool.

For the Diva’s challenge number 369, we were to do a composition using “orbs”. For this one, I tried to use the dew drop technique where a piece of a pattern looks magnified within an expanse of the same pattern at a smaller size. I’m not sure I succeeded in doing credible dew drops, but I think they can definitely qualify as orbs.

I used the tangles N’zeppel, Hollibaugh, a version of Dinoflor, and Tipple.

This week is the first Zentangle Diva challenge of the month, so as is her custom, it is “Use My Tangle” day. She introduced us to a tangle by Heidi Sue called Mezzanine. I am going through an organic tangle phase and Mezzanine is a very nice addition to my organic tangle repertoire. I suspect I’ll be using it quite often. It’s not too complicated, but is quite versatile and can be embellished in all sorts of ways.

Since I had just finished a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) composition using all organic tangles while I was procrastinating, I decided to see if I could incorporate Mezzanine. I inserted Mezzanine tangles in three places. Can you find them?

Can you find the Mezzanine tangles?

While we’re on the subject of procrastination new tangles, I’ve published a new one (for me) on my blog. It’s a continuous line tangle that I’ve named Seespan.

Hello Suzanne,
Your weekly blog posts always give me a laugh each week and always look forward to your posts. I tried to click on the link to your new tangle Seespan (I wonder what you were watching last week as I was having a ‘beer’ – “I like OK?” Is my quote of the week!), and it’s linked to the one prior. I wanted to try out the new tangle that inspired you from the Senate hearings on c-span last week !

Heh I was going to procrastinate but I kept putting it off. LOL love that pic of the blue footed boobie (lucky you, seeing one irl!) the Diva challenge pieces are way cool. I did find all three Mezzanines … that one reminds me of a thicket in The Secret Garden. Very organic indeed!

Thank you. Mezzanine is a very compelling tangle. I’ve already been using it a lot.

Nice way to incorporate it into the other organic tangles. Good luck with the writers block/procrastination.

Great work Suzanne! I love that Mezzanine piece and the lovely garden you’ve got growing there. I’m intrigued by the Blue Footed Boobie
