I have a good excuse for being late to this week’s Diva challenge. We spent Monday traveling to Madrid, Spain. Flights from the east coast of the United States to western Europe leave in the evening, but are only about 7 hours long, so we arrived in Madrid Tuesday morning at what would have been about 1:00 a.m. Philadelphia time, but was 8:00 a.m. Madrid time. We pretty much sleep walked through yesterday. By 6:00 p.m., I was completely knackered (as my British friends would say), so I fell asleep and ended up in bed for 14 hours. Having knocked back some strong Spanish coffee, I’m ready for the day. Before we head out to explore, my traveling companion, Mr. Excitement wants to check his work email, so I have some time to post something in response to the challenge.
This week’s challenge is hosted by guest Diva, Dilip Patel, a Zentanglist from India. We are asked to produce a tree, using a montangle. I probably haven’t followed directions 100% but my tree is inspired by the season and mostly uses N’zepple. I couldn’t resist adding a star/sun.
Part of our early somnolence yesterday was probably caused by our late afternoon snack of white wine, Spanish olives and serrano ham tostas (open faced sandwiches). Not surprisingly, Mr. and Mrs. Excitement are relative light weights when it comes to alcohol consumption. Add in jet lag and it’s little wonder we were unintentionally lights out so early. Even though it was 27 degrees Farhenheit (-2.7 C) when we landed at the Madrid Barajas airport at 8:00 a.m., by the afternoon, we were able to enjoy our little repast at an outdoors cafe.
I can see that Madrid will provide interesting Zentangle inspiration. I was moved to take a photograph of the ceiling in the Madrid airport luggage claim area. Taking a photo like that will might get you arrested in Philly, but no one seemed to mind here in Madrid.
One of the fun things about the Zentangle community is how international it is. Today, we are meeting Certified Zentangle Teacher Alicia Gutierrez Rey for lunch. Alicia was a classmate in my CZT training group (#18) in Providence this spring. We also hope to meet up with another CZT, a British expat, at our next stop in Cordoba.
Where will you be going on your next trip?

Love your tree!
Well I love your Christmas tree and it just had to have a star or it wouldn’t be Christmas, would it? Envying your lunch in the sun, I am looking forward to a week in the Tenerifian warmth , leaving in a few days. In fact, I suspect you will fly over us on your way home – give us a wave, won’t you?
If I do that, a flight attendant might force us to land in Birmingham because of a passenger acting erratically, waving oUT the window at 39,000 feet. 😉
Great idea to do a Christmas tree, Suzanne. I still can’t confirm whether we can meet but I do have to tell you that I’m not a CZT (yet!) – hope that doesn’t put you off! With fingers crossed for an opportunity to get together in sunny Andalucia! Axxx
No worries. Some of my best friends aren’t CZTs. 😉
What a lovely tree, Suzanne!! Christmas in the sun!! Delighted your trip is going so well!! 🙂 🙂

You are the first to use nzeppel for your tree,I love it and especially the lights across the middle. I am afraid I have no plans for any trips, but then it is so beautiful here. My little fishing village has several thatched cottages, two windmills, a harbour, a long strand, three small islands just off shore, and a lighthouse a little further offshore. What more could you want? Did I hear you say weather, hmm well the less said about that the better!
Very festive tile! Well done!
Wonderful Christmas tree. I’m glad you are enjoying your trip. My next major trip will probably be to the kitchen. I am really a homebody and the idea of travel makes me shiver. LOL!
I love this one and the whole idea that you added the sun says something about your spirit, both holiday-wise and otherwise:) My next trip is to bar tonight, for a few stiff Manhattans. No jet lag involved:)
I’m not sure if it’s the sun or a star. In either case, thanks.
Nifty tree! What a cool way to put strings of lights on it, too!
As for travel, we’ll be spending the night in “a room” for Christmas. That is to say, we’ll stay put in our own town, but we’re giving each other a hotel room with Jacuzzi and room service, and we’ll go out and about downtown, where there are astounding light displays and plenty of music and sidewalk parties, etc.
Yet another great idea for a tree/Christmas tree.
I do like your tree! Hope you are awake now and enjoying every second in Spain.
On my next trip? I’ll be going to California, since that’s where my son and DIL now live. In fact, that’s where I’ll be going on just about all of my trips in the near future. I’m really getting to know the Bay area.
Great Christmas Tree with the sun shine! How happy!
My next trip? From the kitchen to the living room to finish decorating the Xmas tree! I really love that picture of the Madrid airport ceiling – that would actually make a good photo to frame! You have a good eye and even tho I am not a CZTer I see designs every where I go now!!
