People flying to England from North America are most familiar with sprawling Heathrow and Gatwick Airports that serve metropolitan London, but if you intend to extend your travel beyond the British Isles, you might find that you need to get yourself to London Luton Airport. Even though most Americans have never heard of it, London Luton Airport served over 9,500,000 passengers in 2011. It is the fourth largest airport international airport in the London area and it is currently used by ten passenger airlines. Nine of them are so-called “budget” airlines. Some fly only seasonally to certain locations, but El Al also uses Luton for regular flights to and from Tel Aviv.

If your travel plans include a flight on EasyJet to another city in Europe, chances are you will be flying out of London Luton Airport where EasyJet is headquartered. Ryanair, Monarch, Thomson Airways and Wizz Air also have a significant number of flights that use this airport.

London Luton Airport is only five minutes from the M1 Motorway in Befordshire. It is also a convenient 15 minutes from the M25 Motorway. It is 32 miles northwest of central London and 90 miles from Birmingham; hence, it is a reasonable airport to which to drive from much of England. Driving to the airport also makes financial sense because of very affordable deals for long term London Luton Airport parking. After all, if you are flying on a budget airline, you don’t want to start your holiday or business trip by breaking the bank getting to the airport!

In order to reduce the stress of flying into another country from England, even another country in the European Union, I prefer to book an early flight so that I will arrive at my destination at mid-day to avoid rush hours and when it is still light. The fact that there are convenient Luton Airport hotels at all price points, makes it possible to stay overnight close to the airport to make it easy to avail oneself of that early start.

When making your travel arrangements, don’t forget London Luton Airport.
