Zentangle Diva Challenge #297 – Philadelphia Holiday Edition

Holiday lights on Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia

I’ve been a bit of a stranger to the Zentangle Diva Challenge world for a few weeks. I did actually do the challenges, but I never got around to posting them on my blog. I’ll add them to my Zentangle Inspired Art Pinterest board if anyone is interested in checking them out.

This week’s challenge is the last one for 2016 (where did that year go???). The challenge was to use one of the past holiday time challenges. I chose to redo the one from last year to Give the Gift of Zentangle. My impetus for choosing this one is that Mr. Dr. Excitement decided I should finally do something useful with the hours I spend tangling. He saw I bought some blanks for bookmarks and asked for some to include with holiday gifts for the staff, scientists and technicians in his lab. (If you are reading this and happen to work in his lab, please act pleasantly surprised when you receive a Zentangle Inspired Art bookmark by moi.) They each have tangles on both sides:

And the other sides:

19th Century Mansion on Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia

Somehow, this 19th century town house survived on Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia as others were torn down to be replaced by apartment buildings.

So, it turns out that travel can be dangerous to one’s health—especially if one is of a certain age. I’ve been having to attend physical therapy for impingement of the rotator cuffs in both my shoulders. Note to Self: Don’t be too proud to ask the strapping
young man next to you to assist you in hoisting your suitcase overhead on planes and trains when traveling alone. I’ve always felt that I should be able to handle my suitcase without assistance. Apparently, I’m going to have to rethink that because I’m not ready to give up traveling.

I’m finding chronic pain to be quite enervating, so I’m feeling behind in my travel blogging with at least two more posts about Iceland to be written. Fortunately, the dog still needs to be walked, so I have a few photos to share from the Rittenhouse Square area here in Philadelphia decked out for Christmas.

And finally, Rittenhouse Square has been decked out in golden Christmas lights, making it cheerful even on a rainy night.

Lastly, if anyone still needs some holiday gift ideas, I did a blog post to share a few of my favorite things.

Best wishes for a joyful Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanza or any other holiday you celebrate.

Are you ready for the end of year holidays? Do you enjoy getting ready or is it a stressful and maybe even a sad time for you?

Maybe your shoulders ache from bending over little squares of paper? 🙂

Oh, I feel for you. Pain just becomes something that hangs about as we age. After a while, you tend to ignore it as much as possible since it’s not going anywhere soon. I have learned to say no when people ask me for help because I know I will pay for it. I need one of those strapping young men to be close by at all times, (won’t go into that sentence any further) LOL! Bookmarks are always an appreciated gift, and you’ve made some lovely ones. You certainly live in a beautiful place (except for the cold, of course!).

Oh wow, those bookmarks – I LOVE bookmarks because I still have real physical books (as opposed to digital). Hmmm, did I hear you say you were going to sell them on your website??? And some tiles with your tangles on them since I’d buy them. I mean, are you SURE you didn’t say that???

Love that town house – and that it survived. The difference between it and the ones on each side show so obviously that the 19th century had more class and artistic poetry!! And I love the Square – *sigh* – we don’t get a lot of decorations here – some lights downtown but locals where we are quit decorating a few years back. It’s … DARK (smile).

Those bookmarks are lovely Suzanne and I’m sure fiends that get them will be pleased. I have some bookmarks, given to me by fellow tanlgers and I use them all the time (always reading a few book at the same time) and thinking of the person that made it for me.

Last year entering the train in Basel (going back home) I didn’t ask for help and …. I did hurt my hand badly. A lesson!!!!!

Hope the pain goes away soon! Love the photos. I find that some patrons are extra-obnoxious at the library where I work during the holiday season — but others bring us cookies and candy! So it all balances out. Where did 2016 go? Down the toilet, election-wise if you ask me. Hope 2017 is better.
