Zentangle Diva’s Challenge #197 – Arukas

by Suzanne Fluhr on December 9, 2014 · 17 comments

This week, the Zentangle Diva, Laura Harms, returned to the challenge after a four week hiatus during which her son had eye surgery. Here’s hoping things continue to go well for young Artoo.

The challenge this week is to use the tangle Arukas by Molly Hollibaugh. It is also one I had tried before with disastrous less than spectacular results. However, this time I must have had an “aha moment” and I think I now understand how it works.

This particular tangle (Arukas) seems especially appropriate for the holiday season. For me, it conjures up representations of the Star of Bethlehem I have seen in religious art. As usual, I don’t know the names of all the tangles I reinvented used in my ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art), but I’m pretty sure there are versions of germie, yuma, cubine and cadent. Without further ado, here’s what I came up with:

Zentangle Diva's weekly challenge number 197 - AkurasIf you are in the need of some comic relief this week, please check out my blog post about signs we encountered in Southeast Asia that lost something in translation. You can find it here.

Love those Christmas trees and the star for Arukas works really well. Tried to follow the link to the other page but it didn’t work. No worries, I’ll try again another time.

Aaaargh. I fixed the link. Maggibee, I know I’ve never personally met you, but I think you’d enjoy the post about the funny signs in Southeast Asia.

I sketched around for a couple of hours the other night trying to work out a Christmas tree Zentangle. You’ve got it covered, and with the Star of Bethlehem to boot! It’s a beautiful drawing.
