Zentangle Diva’s Challenge #196 — All Dolled Up

by Suzanne Fluhr on December 2, 2014 · 17 comments

Doll Dress for Zentangle Diva Challenge #196Guest Diva, Emily Classon, CZT, presented this week’s challenge which was to be inspired by dolls. According to my mother, I never had a favorite doll growing up, but as a toddler I apparently was quite devoted to a stuffed animal—a rabbit. It sounds as though my devotion actually rose the level of an addiction because when my rabbit went missing at the supermarket when I was age 3, my parents spent a few hours combing the supermarket trash dumpster searching for him/her. They were quite relieved to find my somewhat filthy, smelly stuffed rabbit who was made presentable by a trip to the washing machine.

I do remember playing with paper dolls with my sisters, so my response to the challenge is a fancy dress suitable for a cut out paper doll. Judging by the result, I must have channeled my inner Scarlett O’Hara of Gone With the Wind fame.

PS: If you are looking for somewhere to visit for some holiday fun, please check out my latest Boomeresque blog post about visiting my home town of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA this month.

Your dress looks perfect for Scarlet and her 19 inch waist! You made Yuma look easy, although it’s one I struggle with. And those flashes of colour are inspired. Metallic pens? I had, and in fact still have my two favourite dolls, Carol and Gillian. I don’t play with them now , of course, well, hardly ever!

Yes, I’m afraid few people other than Scarlett or a paper doll could wear my tangled dress. Yes, I did use some metallic pens for sparkle.

It sure is a fancy dress, and I like that you really made a paper doll dress. Great tangles.

Love the ‘gone with the wind’ paper doll dress. You even added the tabs at the shoulders…very authentic! Takes me back a few years…hahaha! Thanks for jogged memories.

This is so sweet! It reminds me of playing with paper dolls on the floor at my gramma’s house. Just wonderful!

Love your ‘gone with the wind’ gown, Suzanne!!! And you made me remember my stuffed rabbit ‘Hanneman’ (see, I still remember his name). A had him as a baby and toddler and his ears were regulary worn so a friend of my Mam sewed new ones on him and …. I did not like him for days then. I still have a photo holding him.
So, living in quite different countries we have the same sort of memories, I love that!

Thanks, Annemarie. Apparently, I also preferred my rabbit to be unrepaired. My mother tells me I liked to play with the stuffing coming out of a tear in one of the ears. Once when I pulled off the ear completely, I wanted it sewn back on, but I didn’t want the tear repaired.

A very beautiful dress and it really looks as Scarlet is wearing it 😉 And though I don’t like to wear dresses (I prefer jeans etc. ;-)) I would like to wear yours!

I love this dress and I love that you put the tabs on the top like a “real” one. I enjoyed your story about your rabbit. I had a duck and I left him in the park. I was too young to go back to the park myself to get it, but my brother was and he wouldn’t do it. I brought it up EVERY time I saw him when we were adults HAHA!

Oh, so pretty! Love your paper doll dress – I love paper dolls, and used to love making my own clothes for them – and cutting some out of the Sears catalog!

Your dress is fantastic. I love your selection of patterns and how beautifully they transform into textile. I, too, loved my stuffed animals and still have my childhood friend, Flip, a long-eared, brown rabbit. Thank you for playing with my challenge this week. 🙂
