Zentangle Tangle Munchin

[Zentangle? What? Start here.]

IMG_1836 (1)Last week for the first time in a very long time, I did not post a response to the Diva’s weekly challenge. I have a good excuse. I was “on assignment” reviewing the Woodloch Pines Resort on Lake Teedyuskung in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. Yes, it’s a tough job, but someone has to do it. 😉

I did eventually tackle the challenge which was to use a tangle, Tri-bee, by German CZT Beate Winkler. It took me quite a few tries to get my head around Tri-bee and I’m not sure I exactly have it right, but here’s what I came up with:

Zentangle Tangle Tri-bee

Today, the Zentangle Diva’s Weekly Challenge was posted on Tuesday because yesterday was the day Canada celebrates Thanksgiving on the second Monday in October. It makes a little more sense than the 4th Thursday in November which is when we celebrate Thanksgiving here in the United States. Although many of us take the Friday after Thanksgiving as a vacation day, it is not an official holiday. There were some years in my full time lawyer days when  I had to try to present a case in court on the day after Thanksgiving with all participants working through a post turkey consumption trytophan induced haze. Justice never sleeps, but admittedly it is not always fully awake.

This week, our challenge was to use Molly Hollibaugh’s tangle, Munchin. The additional challenge was to do so on a black tile. At first, I didn’t think I needed to watch the video of Molly demonstrating Munchin. After all, I saw her do it in person during my CZT training earlier this year. I’m glad I decided that a refresher couldn’t hurt because I think I definitely understand Munchin better after watching the video. Additionally, her pointers on working with black tiles and gelly roll pens were also very helpful. The Diva admitted that she is not fond of working on black tiles. I feel the same way, but I decided to suck it up and make my best effort. I found that by adjusting my attitude, I embraced the challenge and it wasn’t so bad.

Do you have a national Thanksgiving holiday where you live? Is there a traditional meal? Have you ever been to the Poconos? If you’re a tangler, how do you feel about working on black tiles?

What a great tile, I like the coloured orbs and the slices cut into the Munchin is very effective. I forgot about that.

No, we don’t have a Thanksgiving Day here in Ireland. I must say I didn’t know Canada had a different day to America until there was no Diva post yesterday.

Suzanne, your Tri-Bee is creative and perfect – I think you totally have it!! And I love the circle effect. Tough assignment to go check out the Poconos 🙂 🙂 Your Munchin is very cool!! I am glad I watched the video – it made it pretty easy. Love your black swoops – I never thought of that even tho I work on black a fair amount (I love it) 🙂

Great tiles, both of them. I love the addition of color to the München one.

Suzanne, your tiles are phantastic!
I LOVE the coloured dots at Munchin they make me smile! Thank you!
And to answer your questions: I live in Germany, Dresden. We do not celebrate thanksgiving here. I know that in rural areas farmers celebrate “Erntedankfest”, but it is not a official holiday in the whole country.
And no- I have not been in the Poconos yet (I even do not know where it is, but I will google it immediately…)
And I like it to tangle white on black sometimes because for me the white is so brilliant on the black ground.

Thanks for your comment, Simone, compared to the Alps, the Pocono “Mountains” are mere hills, but they are pretty with some glacial lakes sprinkled about from the last ice age.

I love the Tri-bee piece. Another one for the plate pattern file. You’ll have a whole set soon 😉
I also like you colored orbs. I enjoy working on the black tiles but I sympathize with those that don’t.

Suzanne, I like the colored points in your tile a lot.
Here in the Netherlands we do not have Thanksgiving but there is a day in September that is called ‘Thanksgiving for the crop’. But that is only celebrated by so protestant churches (as far as I know).
I like to thank you for all your kind comments on my blog, I really do like them.

Your “tangle” pix are beautiful! I may not know anything about it other than what you’ve taught me, but I certainly enjoy looking at the results you produce! Sleepy justice – ha! Too funny – although, probably not whie you’re in the middle of it.

I will never understand Munchkin and I don’t aspire to. But I enjoyed looking at the photos.

I love the little colored dots you used in Muchin, and your Tri-bee is well done too. When I was a senior in high school, we had our class trip to the Pocono’s. We stayed at a really run down resort where the girls shared rooms to change for the evening dance. We decided that a group picture of all of us should sit on the bed while someone took the picture. Well, the bed caved in and one of the girls had her leg tucked under the bed. Yup, broken leg. Beautiful area of the country though.

Hi Suzanne, glad to see you’re back – I was worried. As you are aware, we don’t do Thanksgiving in the UK but we do have Harvest Festivals at this time of year, which is a lovely tradition.
As for the black tiles, I’m ambivalent. At first, I really didn’t like them at all but, with practice, I found they could be very rewarding, so, yes, sometimes I like using them.
And yours? Well, I really like the Tri Bee one best, it’s so light and airy. Very nice. The Munchin one (I keep wanting to call it Munchkin – doh!), anyway, I like that one as well, especially enhanced with the coloured dots and the black overdrawing of the “teeth”.

It’s sweet of you to have noticed that I was MIA for a week.

As everyone mentioned, the tiny colored orbs just make the Munchin tile. And I’d forgotten all about Molly doing the slices until I saw your tile again. I think you did a great job on Tri-Bee also. Both are wonderful.

Well done – I especially love the color accents on the Munchin.

I like that Tri-bee! But I have to say, that I really do like the black tile background. I laughed out loud, just thinking of a bunch of lawyers in a courtroom on the Friday after Thanksgiving… all with turkey hangovers!

Both are wonderful! I really love your tangle “Phirst” and it looks so lovely as a border! Also I like your Munchin tile with the touch of colour!

What a lovely idea to use different colored dots! It just makes it something ‘more’…nice!

Nice tiles. I like the added color at the points. Is a unique way to vary Munchin.

I love both of your pieces. The Tri-bee looks like you had no problem with it at all and your Munchin looks like it’s playing with beach balls with all those colored orbs bouncing about. It’s quite fun with the black cuts in there too. Nice work on them both!
