Zentangle Diva Challenge #335 – Back in Beantown Edition

Suzanne Fluhr writing a brief

If Zentangle is a new concept for you, start here

Note: “Beantown” is an affectionate nickname for Boston, apparently coined by travelers who enjoy beans baked in molasses during their Boston visits.

Wild Flowers at Fresh Pond in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

We took advantage of an Indian Summer day to go walking around Fresh Pond, the reservoir for Cambridge, Massachusetts.

This week’s Zentangle Diva Challenge post comes to you from Cambridge, Massachusetts, a city adjacent to Boston where I am visiting my sisters-in-law. First settled in 1631, Cambridge is one of the oldest cities in the United States.

Cambridge is one of those places with a high average IQ per capita as it is home to both Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). When I learned Mr. Excitement would be attending an immunotherapy conference in Boston, I invited myself along.

I’m using this visit as a chance to catch up with old friends—“old” as in people I first met waaaaay back in the day at summer camp, college and law school.

I was looking forward to tackling this morning’s challenge, but as I opened my smart phone browser seeking Laura’s post, the first thing that popped up was news of last night’s massacre in Las Vegas, Nevada where over 50 people were killed and over 500 wounded by a lone gunman spraying an outdoor concert with automatic weapon fire from the 32nd floor of a casino. Apparently, it’s not just Mother Nature who is on a rampage. I hope you and all those you love are safe.

It is an impossibly beautiful day here in Cambridge, making the juxtaposition with today’s dark news even more stark. I felt a need to use color for today’s  first Monday of the month Use My Tangle (UMT) challenge, featuring the tangle Tint by German CZT (Certified Zentangle Teacher), Henrike Bratz. I used both colored pencils and metallic gelly roll pens. I took  a photo of my tile, in my sisters-in-laws’ garden:

Tangles used: Tint, Hollibaugh (with some pearls), and Crazy N’Zeppel.

We enjoyed a walk around Fresh Pond, the reservoir for Cambridge yesterday. My sisters-in-laws’ dog, Izzy, thought it was an excellent day for a swim and bounded into a pond open to dogs next to the reservoir.

Peace. Out.

Yes, another sad day for too many. It breaks my heart.
Your tile has the look of a stoned edging with a nice stream going through it. The colors are yummy and those white highlights look great on the inner stones.
Before the doctor laid down the law, I used to make Boston baked beans. Soooo yummy! Have some for me 🙂

No beans? That’s kind of mean.

Love the colours in all your photos. Such a contrast to the news from Las Vegas.

Your Tangle makes me think of the garden you took the picture in an even though we are entering Fall it feels Spring like, it just needed a dog swimming in the river 🙂

Love the dog swimming picture! He’s just having fun and enjoying the day. Your tile is garden-worthy, too. I love the history you incorporate into your posts!! Well I guess you could just say I love your posts ()!

And again so many lives ended and others injured. So much pain, so much sadness. I try to understand what brings someone to do such a horrible thing, but that’s impossible.
So, some color was needed for your tile and it became beautiful!

Beautiful tile, and lovely color as in opposite of the dark situation in Vegas.

Nice tile. Like the colors that you chose. I have tried to stay aware of all that happened in Las Vegas but have been really distracted lately with a lot of issues. Have to keep reminding myself that I am not 45 anymore.
