Zentangle Diva Challenge #293 – Philadelphia Windows Edition

by Suzanne Fluhr on November 15, 2016 · 19 comments

(New to Zentangle, start here.)

I’m very grateful I learned about Zentangle before Donald Trump became the president elect of the United States. It’s a place I can go when the real world just seems to be too much.

This week, Laura Harms (the Zentangle Diva) asked us to use the tangle Keeko. Keeko is one of the first tangles I learned. It looks like a basket weave and relies only on lines. I’ve done this monotangle just to show the uninitiated what Keeko looks like. It is particularly useful as a background tangle.

I also used Keeko in this Zentangle Inspired Art. Can you find it?

To add some color to your day, I thought I’d share these photos of Philadelphia fall window boxes adorning 19th century homes in the Rittenhouse Square area of the city. We’ve had some lovely warmish days even this late into the fall. We walk through this neighborhood on our way to the dog park.

And, finally, here’s a photo of charming little Fitler Square, in the neighborhood adjacent to the Schuylkill River.

For folks in the Northern Hemisphere, has your fall also been unseasonably warm? Have you ever planted your own window boxes?

Two great tiles! And I love your photographs.

Tangling really is a blessing at a time when the world seems to be going crazy!

Love your Keeko monotangle. The shading is great! Your beautiful photos are so joyous! I agree… Zentangle creates peace and calm to difficult times and situations. 🙂

Your Keeko monotangle is wonderful Suzanne. I love how the smaller pieces puff up and make pillows on top of the bottom piece. And I did find the Keeko in your other tile. I like how you filled all those parts in with different tangles. Looks like a garden in itself.

I love the autumn pics. Fall is my favorite season. Our summer was cold and rainy but we have had a beautiful warm and dry september and october…
The Zia with a little piece of Keeko is very nice but also your Keeko tile is wonderful with such great shadowing!

Until tonight, our autumn has been warmer than usual, but we have a record-setting amount of rainfall in October (usually a gorgeous month in the Willamette Valley). Thank you for the lovely photographs and the Zentangle Inspired Art. Do you think David Brooks is accurate (or serious) in recently writing (in a column printed in the New York Times on 11-11-16) that DT will either resign or be impeached within a year of taking office?

Our temperature dropped 30 degrees in the hour my husband and I were out to dinner tonight along with a very brisk wind. We’ve had such a lovely fall with the fall foliage lasting much longer than usual although I think the 2 days of high winds that are predicted might put a serious dent in that. Not sure about DT. He has managed to defy every prediction so far—I’m sorry to say.

Great Keeko tile. I loved seeing the window boxes. So pretty. I have also been enjoying the warm for Minnesota weather this fall! Sounds like that is going to shortly change for us.

I love window boxes and try to have them in any house I live in! Those you showed are so beautiful and have given me great ideas! I LOVE Keeko – that is just amazing (the first pix) – wow!! Our weather here in the mid-west is really weird. In late November we usually have very cold days – it’s been mostly in lower 70’s upper 60’s and IT IS RUINING MY CHRISTMAS SNOW. I want snow for Christmas and I demand it NOW! OK OK I’m back. It’s just too strange – last year was a warm Christmas, too. YUCK!

Love your ZIA, it took a few seconds, but I found the Keeko within the work. 😀

Love your monotangle Keeko! And so enjoy your photographs that I see on Facebook. I seem to have more limited time these days and checking blogposts online is a pain with my not-overly-smart phone as it always makes a hash of me leaving comments. But I’ve been with you all through the past few weeks – in spirit and solidarity. Big hugs. Axxx
